Labor Day

United States or Soviet?Image by Jo Peattie via Flickr

September seems to be a transitional month. Summer has ended, school is back in session, and fall and the holidays are just around the corner. Most think of Labor Day as the last Hoorah of Summer and is probably the most remembered holiday of September. According to The U.S. Department of Labor, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. With the given economic times, those who have work, are truly thankful. And given the economic times, it presents a lot of opportunities for those with an entrepreneur spirit. For it is the small business owner we have to thank for usually pulling us out of these economic challenges. So when you need a product or service, try and do business with the small business owner vs. the big box store.

One notable holiday this month and certainly worthy of sending a greeting card is Grandparents Day on September 13. I read a wonderful quote by Jim Rohn the other day which I think is very appropriate for this day, '"Never let anyone you care about walk out to an empty mailbox!" If your grandparents are no longer around, honor someone else's on this special day or stop by a Senior Living Home and spend some time.

And lastly in for our list of holidays are the quirky ones from Wellcat. They always bring a few chuckles. However, there are a few listed below on the traditional Earth Calendar that seem a little humorous to me, like it's National Cholesterol Education Month, but they don't list that September the 5th is International Bacon Day. Oh and here's a good one, it's National Bed Check Month. Seems like this one would have been started by a summer camp counselor or a DI. Just makes you wonder.

Sept 9 Wonderful Weirdos Day -- All of us are blessed with one or two wonderful weirdos in our lives. These are the folks who remind us to think outside the box, to be a little more true to ourselves. Today's the day to thank them. So give them a hug, and say "I love you, you weirdo!"
Sept 11 Remember Freedom Day -- A reminder to all that freedom never comes cheaply. Study it, preserve it, and pass it on.
Sept 17 Time's Up Day --So you think you have years to make up with your sister? Months to reach out to Mom? Forget it! You're not even guaranteed a tomorrow. Do it today.
Sept 22 Dear Diary Day -- Put it on paper. You’ll feel better. No need to be a professional writer.
Sept 28 Fish Tank Floorshow Night -- All year the fish and other denizens of the tank have to stay under the spotlight and keep us entertained. Well, turnabout is fair play. Gather family and friends ‘round the aquarium and dance and sing. Try La Mer, Sea Of Love, or even Swan Lake.

Post a comment of any holidays that we fail to list.

Hope you have a Super September!

In gratitude,
